General Information
When you choose which makeup classes to attend it is important to make your choice based at least partially on the Instructor and the Instructor's current and ongoing experience being in the exact same style of makeup that you are interested in pursuing as well as making sure the Instructor is a Licensed Instructor. Choose an Instructor that spends more time working in the industry in which you want to pursue than she does in teaching makeup classes. The world of freelance makeup is ever evolving and it is of the utmost importance to learn the current trends and techniques. Secondly, consider the market in which the Instructor works in. If you want to work in New York then take classes from Instructors in New York. If you wish to work in Atlanta then take classes from an Instructor that is currently working in the Atlanta market and can train you based on current market demands for the area. Kat Flynt specializes in Media Makeup & Wedding Makeup currently working in the Atlanta market since 1993 for Weddings and since 2003 in Media Makeup. For those traveling here from out-of-state that wish to take our course anyway - see options below.
Flynt Makeup Academy - Location
The private mentorship makeup artist training programs are held inside Kat Flynt's Makeup Studio in Gwinnett County. As a Licensed Instructor, Kat Flynt also teaches group classes as an Independent Contractor, inside of Cosmetology schools and Aesthetic schools including "The Complete Media Makeup Course" as a group class inside the Atlanta Institute of Aesthetics - click here for group class.
Makeup Class Format
The classes advertised on this website are packaged together to jump start a full, one year private mentorship program. Students pay for four consecutive Mondays with Licensed Instructor Kat Flynt in her personal makeup studio. Each of the four Mondays will start with 1/2 day of "theory" presented in a PowerPoint Presentation along with the Work Book. The second 1/2 of each training day is "practical" and includes a makeup application demonstration by the instructor and hands-on practice by the student(s). Free Bonus - your mentoring by Kat will continue for one full year via email and will include additional homework assignments as well as opportunities to shadow Kat.
Enrollment Deadline
Deadline for enrollment in next class is Friday, January 27, 2012. However, if the class fills up (maximum 4 students) before the enrollment deadline - registration will be closed for that class regardless of the deadline.
Out-of-State Option
If you are a student traveling to Georgia from out-of-state and need to condense your class to fit all into one trip (instead of our regular format of four consecutive Mondays) - please email Kat@flyntmakeupacademy.com to inquire about our condensed crash course version of our media makeup course. Also, for those that are flying in from out of state - click here for directions to Kat's makeup studio from the Airport and click here for link to the Atlanta Marriott at Gwinnett Place which is approximately half way in between airport & Kat's studio. Or if you are driving in then the closest hotel to me is the Regency Inn and Suites, Lawrenceville, GA - click here for link to them.
Certificate of Completion
As Kat has been a Guest Speaker and provided a one hour demonstration at many Cosmetology or Aesthetic programs - we have found that several new makeup artists are claiming to have taken a class with her. While flattered - please allow us to correct - it is NOT the same thing to sit in on a one hour demonstration. Kat provide's a signed Certificate only to those who have actually completed her courses. Subject to successful achievement of makeup course content, qualified students will receive a Certificate of Completion signed by Kat Flynt for each of the four classes. These Certificates represent that you have completed the course(s) in makeup training. The Certificate also acknowledges that you studied under a Makeup Instructor who is a professional makeup artist currently working in the industry. After the four weeks are complete - you will receive four Certificates (one for each class). However, your mentoring by Kat will continue for one full year via email and will include additional homework assignments as well as opportunities to shadow Kat on real jobs.
Supplies Needed for Makeup Course
Student does not need to bring anything to class. We provide a mini practice kit for the student's use during class. However, we do suggest that you bring your kit for evaluation and help in deciding if there are items you may want to add to your professional makeup kit. Student will need internet access in order to complete course and student will need to purchase their own supplies for accepting jobs.

Licensing Requirements
It is our understanding that you no longer have to be licensed as a Cosmetologist or Esthetician to work as a Freelance Makeup Artist in Georgia. In 2006, a small portion of wording was deleted and the following wording was added to the law "Such term shall not apply to a person whose activities are limited to the application of cosmetics which are marketed to individuals and are readily commercially available to consumers." Click here to read complete law. However, we are aware that there are many production companies and television stations, and of course all salons and spas, etc.. that have the requirement of being licensed (as a Cosmetologist or as an Esthetician) as part of their policies for those working as their makeup artist(s); therefore we do recommend (but do not require) that the artists obtain the license in addition to our makeup classes.
Job Placement
We take very seriously our job of making sure you are ready to work and marketable after taking our complete series of classes and while we can not guarantee work we do our best to send referrals your way!! Also, ALL of Kat's Assistants are always hired from the list of students who have completed our one year mentorship program. We also offer qualified students (achievement of all course content for the complete series of classes plus have their own website) a full, one year, FREE listing under the "New Makeup Artists List" on our job referral website:
